These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Mium mobile application, the Mium website at getmium.com, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). The Service is provided by the operator of Mium (“Mium”, “we”, “us”). Mium digitizes physical cookbooks and recipes and offers AI-assisted cooking tools. The Service ships under the Apple App Store bundle identifier com.cookbookbuddy.app.
Refund and return rules for subscriptions are set out in our separate Refund & Return Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms.
These Terms include a binding arbitration agreement and class-action waiver in Section 13 that applies to U.S. residents. Please read the full document. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.
These Terms are an agreement between you and Mium. They apply each time you sign in, scan a recipe, import content, or purchase a subscription. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Mium. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use Mium only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.
You sign in using Apple ID or Google Sign-In; we do not maintain Mium-specific passwords. You are responsible for safeguarding your federated identity, for any activity under your account, and for keeping your contact information current. Notify us at support@getmium.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
You agree not to:
You own your content. Recipes, photos, ingredient lists, notes, and other material you create or upload (“Your Content”) remain yours. You grant Mium a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, format, parse, display, and back-up Your Content solely to operate the Service for you (e.g., synchronizing your library across devices, running OCR and AI extraction at your request, and powering search). This license ends when you remove the content or close your account, except for routine backups retained for a limited period.
Personal cookbook digitization — your warranty. Mium provides tools that scan, transcribe, and organize physical cookbooks and recipes you own. Many cookbooks are protected by copyright. By using the scanning, indexing, or import features against any physical or third-party media, you represent and warrant that:
You are solely responsible for your digitization decisions. The fact that the Service is technically capable of producing a digital copy of a work does not imply that doing so is lawful in your jurisdiction. Mium does not claim ownership of any recipe text, photographs, or scans you create through the Service.
Sharing with other users — your warranty. The Service lets you share individual recipes, binders, and cookbooks with other people through share links. When you use a sharing feature, you represent and warrant that you have the right to distribute every piece of the content you are sharing — including that it does not consist of content obtained from a paid, subscription, or otherwise access-restricted source, and does not include scans or transcriptions of copyrighted works you are not authorized to distribute. Where the Service asks you to confirm this before creating a share link, that confirmation is a representation you are making to us and to the recipients of your link. You — not Mium — are solely responsible for the content you share; Mium transmits it at your direction and does not review, endorse, or verify it. Recipients of a shared item receive a copy for their personal, non-commercial use under the same restrictions in this Section 4.
Share-link discretion. We may disable any share link, remove or restrict shared content, and suspend or terminate the accounts of repeat infringers at any time, with or without notice, including in response to a rightsholder complaint under Section 9. Certain content is technically excluded from sharing (for example, marketplace purchases and content imported from subscription sources); the absence of a technical block does not make sharing any particular content lawful or authorized.
The Service uses artificial intelligence to extract recipe text from photos, suggest substitutions, scale ingredients, translate units, and answer questions in the “AI Cooking Chef.” Today this is powered by Google Gemini and Google Vision OCR; we may change providers without notice.
AI systems can produce confidently wrong answers, miss safety-critical details, and misread images. By using AI features you acknowledge and agree that:
Mium does not knowingly use the contents of your private library to train foundational AI models. AI requests are submitted to model providers solely to perform the action you have requested.
Mium offers a paid membership, Mium Plus, which grants unlimited recipe imports and unlimited AI. (The AI Cooking Chef is available free to all users; Mium Plus removes the weekly usage limit. Mium shows no advertising on any tier.)
Annual subscription. New subscribers get a discounted first year (in the United States, $19.99 — $10 off the standard $29.99; introductory pricing varies by region and is shown at checkout). It then auto-renews each year at the then-current standard annual price ($29.99 in the United States) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Renewal charges are made through the platform you used to subscribe:
Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain Pro entitlements until the end of the current paid period. We may change subscription pricing or features prospectively; we will give you notice of material changes (typically by email or in-app notification) before they take effect, and you may cancel before the change applies.
Mium Lifetime is an optional one-time purchase (not a subscription) that unlocks the Mium Plus feature set — unlimited recipe imports and unlimited AI — without a recurring charge. It does not auto-renew, is tied to your account, and is non-transferable.
What “lifetime” means. “Lifetime” refers to the lifetime of the Mium service — not your lifetime. Lifetime access continues for as long as Mium continues to operate the Service. It is not a promise that the Service, or any particular feature, will remain available for any minimum period or in perpetuity. What you receive is the Mium Plus feature set as it exists from time to time; individual features, content, or third-party integrations may change, be added, or be removed as the Service evolves, and any new paid products or tiers are offered separately and are not included.
If the Service is discontinued. As described in Section 10 (Suspension & termination), we may discontinue the Service or any part of it. If we do, lifetime access ends with it and — except where a non-waivable consumer-protection law requires otherwise — no refund is owed for any unexpired or indefinite period; our total liability remains subject to Section 11. We would aim to give reasonable advance notice of a planned discontinuation.
Mium Lifetime is sold through Apple (in-app purchase) or our website (Stripe). Refund handling is described in our Refund & Return Policy.
Mium offers a free tier with a limited number of AI-assisted recipe imports per account. Limits are enforced server-side, may change over time, and reset only as described in-app. Manual recipe entry, barcode/ISBN cookbook lookups, and table-of-contents scans do not count against the free import budget. Index scans count one import per page.

The Service depends on third-party providers including Apple (App Store, Sign in with Apple), Google (Play Store, Google Sign-In, Firebase, Gemini, Vision OCR), Stripe (web payments), and RevenueCat (subscription state synchronization). Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of those services. We do not control, and are not responsible for, third-party services beyond what we configure on your behalf.
If you purchased through the Apple App Store, you and Mium acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and Mium only, not with Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with respect to your use of the iOS application and may enforce them against you. Equivalent provisions apply for purchases made through Google Play.
If you believe content in a public recipe or anywhere on the Service infringes your copyright, please send a notice that complies with 17 U.S.C. § 512 to support@getmium.com with: (i) your physical or electronic signature; (ii) identification of the copyrighted work; (iii) identification of the allegedly infringing material and where it appears; (iv) your contact details; (v) a statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized; and (vi) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act for the rightsholder. We respond to DMCA notices and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
You may close your account at any time. In the app, go to Profile › Delete account and confirm to permanently delete your account and associated data. You can also request deletion by emailing support@getmium.com from the email address on the account.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if (a) we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or applicable law, (b) you create risk or possible legal exposure for us, or (c) we discontinue the Service or a portion of it. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 4 license-back, 7 refunds, 11 disclaimers, 12 indemnification, and 13 disputes) survive.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE OR SAFE FOR ITS INTENDED USE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MIUM AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOST PROFITS, RUINED INGREDIENTS OR MEALS, OR PERSONAL INJURY ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON RECIPES, AI OUTPUT, OR OTHER CONTENT MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID MIUM IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR LIMITATIONS ON LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR CERTAIN OTHER DAMAGES; IN THOSE JURISDICTIONS THE ABOVE LIMITS APPLY ONLY TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
You will defend, indemnify, and hold Mium harmless from any third-party claim, demand, loss, or cost (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from (a) Your Content or your use of the Service; (b) your breach of these Terms; (c) your digitization or upload of material you did not have the right to digitize or upload; (d) content you share with others through the Service, including any representation you made when creating a share link; or (e) your violation of applicable law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules, and, where applicable, U.S. federal law. Where required by law, the laws of your country of residence apply for non-waivable consumer protections.
U.S. residents — binding arbitration. If you are a U.S. resident and a dispute arises out of or relates to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved through good-faith negotiation within 60 days, you and Mium agree to resolve it by binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. The seat of arbitration will be Wilmington, Delaware, conducted in English, by a single arbitrator. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class-action waiver. You and Mium agree to bring claims only in your individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, or representative proceeding. Either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court for disputes within that court’s jurisdiction.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of the arbitration agreement and class-action waiver in this Section 13 by emailing support@getmium.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with the subject line “Arbitration Opt-Out” and your account email. Opting out will not affect any other provision.
Outside the United States, you may bring proceedings in your country of residence where required by local consumer law.
We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, give you reasonable advance notice in-app or by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of an update constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to a material change, you may close your account before the change takes effect.
