These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Mium mobile application, the Mium website at getmium.com, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). The Service is provided by the operator of Mium (“Mium”, “we”, “us”). Mium digitizes physical cookbooks and recipes, offers AI-assisted cooking tools, and operates a marketplace where independent authors sell digital cookbooks. The Service ships under the Apple App Store bundle identifier com.cookbookbuddy.app.
Refund and return rules for marketplace cookbooks, credit packs, and subscriptions are set out in our separate Refund & Return Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms.
These Terms include a binding arbitration agreement and class-action waiver in Section 16 that applies to U.S. residents. Please read the full document. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.
These Terms are an agreement between you and Mium. They apply each time you sign in, scan a recipe, import content, purchase a subscription, or unlock a marketplace cookbook. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Mium. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use Mium only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.
You sign in using Apple ID or Google Sign-In; we do not maintain Mium-specific passwords. You are responsible for safeguarding your federated identity, for any activity under your account, and for keeping your contact information current. Notify us at support@getmium.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
You agree not to:
You own your content. Recipes, photos, ingredient lists, notes, and other material you create or upload (“Your Content”) remain yours. You grant Mium a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, format, parse, display, and back-up Your Content solely to operate the Service for you (e.g., synchronizing your library across devices, running OCR and AI extraction at your request, and powering search). This license ends when you remove the content or close your account, except for routine backups retained for a limited period and any content already incorporated into a marketplace listing you have published.
Personal cookbook digitization — your warranty. Mium provides tools that scan, transcribe, and organize physical cookbooks and recipes you own. Many cookbooks are protected by copyright. By using the scanning, indexing, or import features against any physical or third-party media, you represent and warrant that:
You are solely responsible for your digitization decisions. The fact that the Service is technically capable of producing a digital copy of a work does not imply that doing so is lawful in your jurisdiction. Mium does not claim ownership of any recipe text, photographs, or scans you create through the Service.
The Service uses artificial intelligence to extract recipe text from photos, suggest substitutions, scale ingredients, translate units, and answer questions in the “AI Cooking Chef.” Today this is powered by Google Gemini and Google Vision OCR; we may change providers without notice.
AI systems can produce confidently wrong answers, miss safety-critical details, and misread images. By using AI features you acknowledge and agree that:
Mium does not knowingly use the contents of your private library to train foundational AI models. AI requests are submitted to model providers solely to perform the action you have requested.
Mium offers two paid memberships. Both grant the same in-app entitlements (unlimited recipe imports, AI Cooking Chef, ad-free experience). They differ in price, billing cadence, and the marketplace credits included.
Annual subscription with a 7-day free trial for first-time subscribers. You will not be charged during the trial; the subscription auto-renews at the end of the trial unless you cancel before the trial ends. Mium Plus includes one (1) marketplace credit as a one-time welcome bonus, granted when the trial converts to a paid renewal (i.e., on the first successful charge). If you cancel during the free trial, the trial ends without charge and the welcome credit is not granted. The welcome credit is a one-time bonus per Mium account, not a recurring grant.
Quarterly subscription. No free trial. Cookbook Club includes two (2) marketplace credits granted at the start of each billing period (welcome and on each renewal). The credit value of Cookbook Club is approximately $40 per year in marketplace credits in addition to the included entitlements.
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Renewal charges are made through the platform you used to subscribe:
Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain Pro entitlements until the end of the current paid period. We may change subscription pricing or features prospectively; we will give you notice of material changes (typically by email or in-app notification) before they take effect, and you may cancel before the change applies.
Mium offers a free tier with a limited number of AI-assisted recipe imports per account. Limits are enforced server-side, may change over time, and reset only as described in-app. Manual recipe entry, barcode/ISBN cookbook lookups, and table-of-contents scans do not count against the free import budget. Index scans count one import per page.
Marketplace credits (“Credits”) are a digital convenience used to unlock cookbooks in the Mium marketplace. Credits are sold individually or granted as part of a Cookbook Club / Mium Plus subscription.
When you unlock a cookbook on the Mium marketplace — whether by spending Credits, by direct purchase, or by redeeming a stipend Credit — you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to view and cook from that cookbook’s contents inside the Mium app for as long as your account is in good standing and the cookbook remains available on the marketplace.
You may not extract, copy, share, redistribute, screenshot for the purpose of redistribution, sublicense, or otherwise exploit any marketplace cookbook content outside the Service. You may use ingredients and method information for your own private cooking. Authors retain all copyright in their cookbooks.
Mium does not guarantee that any specific cookbook will remain available indefinitely. If an author withdraws a cookbook or we delist one for legal, quality, or operational reasons, you will retain access to any cookbook you previously unlocked unless removal is required by law, by court order, or by the author’s rightsholders.
If you publish a cookbook to the Mium marketplace, you do so under the separate Mium Partner Agreement, which is presented when you submit your first cookbook for review. The headline economics are: authors receive 60% of net revenue (gross less platform fees such as Apple, Google, and Stripe), payouts are made monthly on the 15th for the prior calendar month with a $25 minimum, and refunds within 14 days of purchase reverse the corresponding earnings event. Tax forms (W-9 for U.S. authors, W-8BEN for international authors) are required before the first payout. Full partner terms are available inside the partner portal in the Mium app.

The Service depends on third-party providers including Apple (App Store, Sign in with Apple), Google (Play Store, Google Sign-In, Firebase, Gemini, Vision OCR), Stripe (web payments), and RevenueCat (subscription state synchronization). Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of those services. We do not control, and are not responsible for, third-party services beyond what we configure on your behalf.
If you purchased through the Apple App Store, you and Mium acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and Mium only, not with Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with respect to your use of the iOS application and may enforce them against you. Equivalent provisions apply for purchases made through Google Play.
If you believe content on the Mium marketplace, in a public recipe, or anywhere on the Service infringes your copyright, please send a notice that complies with 17 U.S.C. § 512 to legal@getmium.com with: (i) your physical or electronic signature; (ii) identification of the copyrighted work; (iii) identification of the allegedly infringing material and where it appears; (iv) your contact details; (v) a statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized; and (vi) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act for the rightsholder. We respond to DMCA notices and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
You may close your account at any time. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email privacy@getmium.com from the email address on the account.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if (a) we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or applicable law, (b) you create risk or possible legal exposure for us, or (c) we discontinue the Service or a portion of it. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 4 license-back, 7 Credits forfeiture, 10 refunds, 14 disclaimers, 15 indemnification, and 16 disputes) survive.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE OR SAFE FOR ITS INTENDED USE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MIUM AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOST PROFITS, RUINED INGREDIENTS OR MEALS, OR PERSONAL INJURY ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON RECIPES, AI OUTPUT, OR OTHER CONTENT MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID MIUM IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR LIMITATIONS ON LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR CERTAIN OTHER DAMAGES; IN THOSE JURISDICTIONS THE ABOVE LIMITS APPLY ONLY TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
You will defend, indemnify, and hold Mium harmless from any third-party claim, demand, loss, or cost (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from (a) Your Content or your use of the Service; (b) your breach of these Terms; (c) your digitization or upload of material you did not have the right to digitize or upload; or (d) your violation of applicable law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules, and, where applicable, U.S. federal law. Where required by law, the laws of your country of residence apply for non-waivable consumer protections.
U.S. residents — binding arbitration. If you are a U.S. resident and a dispute arises out of or relates to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved through good-faith negotiation within 60 days, you and Mium agree to resolve it by binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. The seat of arbitration will be Wilmington, Delaware, conducted in English, by a single arbitrator. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class-action waiver. You and Mium agree to bring claims only in your individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, or representative proceeding. Either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court for disputes within that court’s jurisdiction.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of the arbitration agreement and class-action waiver in this Section 16 by emailing legal@getmium.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with the subject line “Arbitration Opt-Out” and your account email. Opting out will not affect any other provision.
Outside the United States, you may bring proceedings in your country of residence where required by local consumer law.
We may revise these Terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, give you reasonable advance notice in-app or by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of an update constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to a material change, you may close your account before the change takes effect.
